The New Cars was a band formed in 2005 with just two of the original members of the 1970s/1980s new wave band The Cars. The band was composed of Todd Rundgren, drummer Prairie Prince, Kasim Sulton, and original Cars members Greg Hawkes and Elliot Easton. The band performed The Cars' classic songs, Rundgren's solo work, and some new material.
Though no formal announcement has been made with regards to the current status of The New Cars, they would appear to be defunct. Rundgren has resumed his solo career, and The New Cars have not performed any shows since September of 2007. On October 21, 2010, The Cars (Easton, Hawkes, Ric Ocasek and David Robinson) confirmed that they have reunited and are recording their first album in 23 years. Meanwhile, The New Cars' official website was maintained until early 2010, but now appears to have been shut down.
In 2005, rumors began circulating that Easton and Hawkes would be teaming with Todd Rundgren in a new Cars lineup, with Rundgren replacing Cars singer Ric Ocasek. The rumors turned out to be true, with the revamped lineup calling themselves The New Cars. Two regular Rundgren collaborators, bassist Kasim Sulton and drummer Prairie Prince, replaced the late bassist Benjamin Orr and drummer David Robinson in the new lineup. (Robinson, who retired from the music world years before, was invited to join the group but amicably declined.)On May 9, 2006, a greatest hits/live collection, The New Cars: It's Alive!, was released on Eleven Seven Music. The album included classic Cars songs recorded live plus new studio tracks. The band's first tour, the summer Roadrage Tour with Blondie kicked off May 12 in Rundgren referred to the project as "an opportunity ... for me to pay my bills, play to a largeraudience, work with musicians I know and like, and ideally have some fun for a year." Ocasek, who has opted out of any possibilities of a reunion, gave his blessing to Easton and Hawkes, saying, "I want Elliot and Greg to be happy." On April 17, 2006, he appeared on The Colbert Report and was asked if there was anyone he wanted to put "on notice". He answered "Todd Rundgren".

The De Lorean DMC-12 is an American sports car that was manufactured by the De Lorean Motor Company from 1981 to 1983 in Northern Ireland. It is most commonly known simply as the De Lorean, as it was the only model ever produced by the company. The DMC-12 featured gull-wing doors with a fiberglass "underbody", to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels are affixed. A De Lorean was featured as a homemade time machine in the Back to the Future trilogy. The first prototype appeared in March 1977, and production officially began in 1981 (with the first DMC-12 rolling off the production line on January 21) at the DMC factory in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. During its production, several aspects of the car were changed, such as the hood (bonnet) style, wheels and interior. About nine thousand DMC-12s were made before production stopped in late 1982. Today, about 6,500 DeLorean Motor Cars are believed to still exist. (more..This page lists daily rotation of selected articles that will appear on the Cars Portal each month. The most popular British-made car, it has since been replaced by the New MINI which was launched in 2001. The original is considered an icon of the 1960s, and its space-saving front-wheel-drive layout influenced a generation of car-makers. In the international poll for the award of the world's most influential car of the twentieth century the Mini came second only to the Ford Model TThis revolutionary and distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis. It was manufactured at the Longbridge and Cowley plants in the United Kingdom, and later also in Spain (Authi), Australia, Belgium, Chile, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yugoslavia. The Mini Mk I had three major updates: the Mk II, the Clubman and the Mk III. Within these was a series of variations including an estate car, a pickup truck, a van and the Mini Moke — a jeep-like buggy. The Mini Cooper and Cooper "S" were sportier versions that were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally three times. (more...)

Gumpert Apollo aufgenommen in Rottach-Egern im Mai 2007 Source:''' Maximilian Dörrbecker Chumwaself|cc-by-sa-2.5 Sie dürfen das Bild zu den folgenden Bedingungen nutzen: Sie müsse)On March 31, 1998, the F1 set the record for the fastest production car in the world at 240 mph. Despite only being fourth on the list, the car is still the fastest naturally aspirated car in the world. The car has a 6.1-liter V12 with 627 horsepower. In order to drive the car, the driver must sit in the middle, sort of like a Formula One carThe car that held the top spot on the Top Gear test track can hit a speed of 220 MPH. The Apollo is produced by a German automaker in Altenburg, whom most people have never heard of. For those of you who like choice, there are three engine types available with the race version rated at 789 horsepower. The production of the Apollo started in October 2005.Although it was designed for racing, the A10 is intended to be a usable car on the road as well. It’s an English built car with a modified 5.0-liter BMW V8 engine producing 625 horsepower. Only 50 A10s will be built, making this just as rare as anything else on this list. The XJ200 held the record for the highest top speed of a production car at 217 mph until the arrival of the McLaren F1. The XJ220 shares a name with the normal XJ, but the two aren’t related. Under the hood was a 3.5 L V6 with twin Garrett T3 turbochargers, generating 542 bhp. BBC Formula One commentator Martin Brundle drove the car to 217

three-speed automatic transmission, independent front suspension with unequal-length A-arms From the 1950s to the 1980s, requests for Nudie's work piled up from a multitude of top stars, ranging from Gene Autry to ZZ Top. By the early 1960s, Nudie added his signature treatment to a number of Cadillacs, and once Webb Pierce, one of Nashville's most flamboyant stars, saw a 1962 Pontiac Bonneville customized by Nudie, he had to have one too. Orders flowed in, including from Audrey Williams, the widow of country music legend Hank Williams, who according to an accompanying letter, acquired the "Silver Dollar Car" at a cost of $22,000 as a promotional vehicle for her son Hank Jr. This indescribable vehicle is one of only nine "Nudiemobiles" that are known to exist today out of the original 18 built, of which each one was uniquely personalized with its own arsenal of non-functional but authentic armaments and chrome-plated embellishments. Beginning with a stock 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible, Nudie removed all traces of the original interior material and carpeting, replacing it with genuine hand-tooled leather. Then came the application of numerous genuine and highly collectible silver dollars dating from 1922 to 1934, along with chrome-plated pistols, horseshoes, miniature horses and rifles. Some of these items acted as functional replacements for interior and exterior door handles, switches and controls. Externally, the six-foot wide Texas longhorns on the front end of the vehicle leave an imposing first impression, while the rear of the car has a full Continental trunk treatment emblazoned with the name "Hank Jr." in chrome letters on the wheel cover – yet another signature Nudie feature. By the time that Audrey Williams had purchased the Pontiac, Hank Jr. was already a rising star who sang and performed on the soundtrack for the 1964 MGM film Your Cheatin' Heart, Hank Sr.'s film biography. When the studio's publicity people heard about Audrey Williams' customized cowboy Bonneville, they decided to use the car to attract media attention for the movie. And attract it did, making many public appearances, with armed guards, at Hank Jr.'s concerts across the country; it even
